Auto parts supplier breaks ground in Chennai for a 3.16 lakh sq. ft. manufacturing facility with Horizon Industrial Parks

Chennai, 21 March 2025: Yazaki, a renowned Japanese wire harness manufacturing company, has taken a step forward by leasing approximately 1 million square feet over the past 15 months across NCR, Hosur, and now Chennai. This has been done in collaboration with Horizon Industrial Parks, Blackstone’s logistics platform in India.

Yazaki supplies wire harnesses to a majority of OEMs in India. To further enhance their production capacity in 2023 from their 10 existing plants, Yazaki first established a 2.6 lakh square feet manufacturing facility in Horizon Industrial Park Hosur, closer to their existing customer base. This plug and play plant needed minimal customization to cater to wire harness production. In March 2024, Yazaki India signed up for their second 2.6 lakh square feet manufacturing facility in NCR with Horizon at Farukhnagar. Both parks are benchmarks in sustainability and boast of Platinum ratings by Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).

Yazaki’s third plant with Horizon Industrial Parks, is a built-to-suit manufacturing unit spanning 3.16 lakh square feet, which will be located in Horizon’s Chengalpattu Industrial Park, situated located along NH45 and just 56 km from Chennai city centre. The wire harness manufacturing facility will be manned by 2000+ employees and will cater to one of the large automotive companies in the region. The factory located within a gated complex in the park, will feature an extensive office area measuring 40000 square feet and have provision for roof top solar panels.

With the new peripheral ring road connecting to the Chennai port, Chengalpattu is quickly evolving into a key manufacturing hub. Some major companies operating in the region include Tech Mahindra, Wipro, BMW, Ford, Flextronics, Dell, Samsung, Infosys, and Siemens. A new SIDCO industrial estate at Kodur Village, announced in 2021, is set to further boost local industry.
